Narrow Road Financial
I've been a financial advisor at some of the largest firms in the country. I've seen the traditional strategies they recommend for retirees and to me, they fall short.
That's why I built Narrow Road to redefine the experience retirees have in their golden years.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that retirement is a milestone, not the finish line. The beginning season of some of the most fruitful and abundant years of your life - one that should be defined by generosity, joy & peace of mind.
The Narrow Road
A Better Path For Your Retirement
-
Are you worried about market downturns derailing your retirement?
-
Are you frustrated by poor performance or lack of income from your current investments?
-
Do you wish your advisor communicated more frequently and openly?
-
Are you simply unsure how to balance enjoying your retirement while ensuring your wealth lasts?
-
Have you been told you "need" complex products like annuities or life insurance to secure your future?

Our Values
What Sets Us Apart
At Narrow Road, we take a different approach - one designed to help you minimize risk, maximize income & live abundantly in retirement.
Our values are different than your typical advisor as well.
Off The Table
-
We don't sell products. We don't sell commission-based products, so our advice is always designed to serve you. Not "product partners".
-
We don't have hidden charges, and No hidden fees. No surprises. No surrender charges. You'll always know exactly what you're paying and why.
-
No Sales Quotas Our success isn't tied to corporate incentives or all expenses paid trips - it's tied to your success. When you succeed, we succeed.
Our Philosophy
-
Fiduciary We're legally and ethically bound to act in your best interests. And we only wear one hat unlike some of our counterparts that are fiduciaries AND product salesmen.
-
We have “skin in the game” We eat our own cooking & invest in the same strategies we place you in. So we're incentivized and aligned to grow your money and ours.
-
Faith Driven We believe God owns it all. So what's at stake here is of eternal consequences. That drives our investment decisions & the advice we give you.
My Why
A Letter From Tj
Greetings friend,
Most people like to know the face behind the scenes so I'll take a swing at talking a little it about myself even though I'm not a big fan of it.
This picture is me in a nutshell. I love my family with all my heart, my boys Eli, Connor & Jack are my pride and joy and I'm forever grateful to my gorgeous wife, Emmalei, who's stuck with me through thick and thin and prayed for God's favor on my ability to lead us as a husband and father the whole way through.
I love connecting with people, I ask a billion & one questions normally (which can be a little exhausting) but truthfully I just want to know people deeply.
The song & dance of small talk, how's the weather, did you read the news yesterday has never appealed to me. It's the beautiful little picadilloes that belong to everyone that I love to know about and making people so darn interesting to me.
For example, I was my wife's first (and last) boyfriend, she was also an incredibly talented Army officer & biomedical engineer before I swept her away to Kansas where there were no jobs, sorry honey.
My oldest boy loves holding hands & he wears glasses so he has this adorable little nose squinch to situate them when they fall down.
My middle boy is one of the most naturally funny kids I've ever been around and has this wonderful little mischievous side eye whenever he's about to play a joke or tickle you.
My youngest is just now developing into his personality but he loves to wrestle. He'll crawl over head down and nuzzle into us whenever we get to wrestling as a family giggling the whole time.
And as for me, I've said all I wanted to be was a dad ever since I was like 15 (which got me a lot of weird looks from my friends) but God has granted me that dream and I'm loving every minute of it. I also have a regrettable tattoo of my favorite Dr. Seuss quote which my oldest periodically reminds me of... "Daddy, why did you draw on yourself? And why won't it come off?"
It's those little things that you can only know about people when you get past the platitudes that make life so wonderful to live.
My family, my dear friends, and my faith are the reason I do what I do.
My mission is to allow you to spend joyfully right now without sacrificing your desires to give to charity and spoil your kids' kids... in a nutshell it's to put money back in the servant role that it belongs.
Because money makes for a terrible, terrible master.

Partner, Director of Planning | Narrow Road Financial
Sam Flaten, CFP®, ChFC®
I believe financial planning is about more than just wealth—it’s about stewardship, wisdom, and walking the right path with discipline and conviction. At Narrow Road Financial, my mission is to help clients make sound financial decisions that align with their values, equipping them to manage their resources faithfully and intentionally.
With years of experience in financial planning, operations, and portfolio management, I’ve seen firsthand how clarity, discipline, and preparation lead to success—not just in finance, but in life. I take a structured, strategic approach to planning, ensuring that every decision serves a greater purpose, whether it’s preparing for retirement, managing taxes, or securing a family’s financial future. While TJ focuses on investment management, I ensure that all financial pieces fit into a comprehensive plan grounded in truth.
Beyond finance, my background as a high school football coach and college athlete has shaped how I approach planning. Success—on the field, in competition, or in financial life—doesn’t come from chasing wins. It comes from consistent effort, wise choices, and staying the course through adversity. That’s why I help clients build financial plans rooted in long-term faithfulness and obedient trust.
My faith is central to everything I do. I believe that money is a tool—not a goal in itself—and that true financial peace comes from aligning our resources with God’s purpose for our lives. I strive to serve others with honesty, humility, and diligence, helping them navigate the complexities of financial planning with wisdom and integrity.
When I’m not building financial plans, you’ll find me coaching football, training in CrossFit, or enjoying time with my growing family. No matter the setting, my goal remains the same: to guide others in truth, to equip them for the road ahead, and to help them walk the narrow path with confidence.
